What is it?

Starting or growing a family is one of life’s biggest decisions. It is natural for couples to want more clarity and confidence as they take those steps.

Preciselee Duo is a set of genetic tests designed to help couples understand certain genetic risks before conception. It can provide information about genetic conditions that may affect future children, as well as selected genetic conditions that may affect the tested individual's own health.

Who is it for?

Preciselee Duo may be suitable for:

  • People planning a pregnancy who want to better understand their genetic risks before conception.

  • People seeking more genetic information than is provided by the standard 3-gene carrier screen or other carrier screening options.

  • People without a personal or family history of a genetic condition. Most families affected by the conditions included in carrier screening do not have a known family history.

  • People with a personal or family history of a genetic condition. In these situations, we recommend first discussing your history with a suitably qualified health professional to help determine whether these tests are right for you.

What does it include?

Preciselee Duo includes the following tests, which can be ordered separately or together, depending on your needs:

  • Expanded Carrier Screen - Checks for more than 1,400 genetic conditions that can affect a child's health. This is usually requested for both partners so their results can be interpreted together to assess the chance of having a child with a condition covered by the screen.

  • Personal Genetic Screen - Checks for more than 80 genetic conditions that may affect the tested individual's own health and may also be passed onto their children. Each partner should choose whether to have this screen, regardless of the other partner’s decision

NOTE: Preciselee Duo does NOT include SMN1 (spinal muscular atrophy) and FMR1 (fragile X syndrome). Screening of these genes is available as Medicare-funded tests through other laboratories.

Pricing

$790 per person. Choose the Expanded Carrier Screen, the Personal Genetic Screen, or both for the same price.

Testing can be performed as individuals or as a couple. Couple reports are available on request, even for those who have been tested as individuals.

Additional diagnostic gene panel testing can be requested for $490 per person.

How do I get tested?

To proceed with Preciselee Duo, we will need:

  1. A completed request form

  1. Patients to complete our online consent module

This explains the purpose of Preciselee Duo, what it can and cannot detect, and the types of results patients may receive. We then confirm patients' understanding with a short quiz.

This step is essential. We will only perform testing once we know the patient has understood the information and provided their informed consent (patients referred by a clinical genetics service are exempt from this requirement).

  1. A saliva sample collected using our own collection kit

After collection, samples are sent to the Preciselee laboratory using the prepaid mail bag provided.

If a clinic or doctor does not have a kit on hand, patients can simply email a photo or scan of the completed request form to contact@preciselee.co and we will mail a kit directly to the patient.

How long does it take?

We will issue a report within 8 weeks of receiving the patient's sample in our laboratory.

Once the patient has discussed the results with their doctor or healthcare provider, we can directly send patients a copy of their report on request.

What happens if something is found?

The patient's doctor will usually be the best person to discuss their results with them.

In some situations, additional professional genetic counselling may be appropriate. If a doctor provides a referral, we can arrange one complimentary telehealth appointment with a qualified genetic counsellor in the following situations:

  • Both partners have been tested through Preciselee and are found to be carriers of the same condition

  • A female individual is found to be a carrier of an X-linked condition

  • An individual is found to have a result on the Personal Genetic Screen that has implications for their own health
